Wetland/Environmental Scientist:
404/401 Permitting
Environmental Services & Consulting (ES&C), an industry leader
in the Roanoke region and New River Valley, is seeking highly qualified
individuals for a full-time position in their Christiansburg, Virginia
office.
Primary Job Duties/Responsibilities: The individual
selected for this position will likely perform wetland delineations and
stream assessments, will prepare Section 404/401 permit applications,
will write technical environmental reports, will assist in stream and
wetland restoration projects, and will conduct mitigation monitoring activities
associated with land development. Fieldwork and strenuous outdoor work
activities will likely be required. The selected individual should have
knowledge and experience in the fields of botany, ecology, water quality,
fluvial geomorphology, soil science, geography, and geology.
Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in
Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, Geography, Botany, geology, or
similar field of study required. Master's degree preferred. Certification
(or the ability to become certified) as a Professional Wetland Scientist
(PWS) or Virginia Certified Professional Wetland Delineator (CPWD) is
preferred. Training in natural channel design (Rosgen, N.C Stream Restoration
Institute, or equivalent) and wetland restoration techniques preferred.
Experience Requirements: The candidate should have a
good understanding of ecology, plant identification, water quality, and
Section 404/401 Clean Water Act (CWA) regulations/permitting. Additional
experience in stormwater management and/or erosion and sediment control
(ESC) is desirable. Candidates should be proficient in the use of Microsoft
Office software applications such as Outlook, Word, and Excel. AutoCAD
and/or Geographic Information System (GIS) experience is preferred. Candidates
with 3-5 years of experience are preferred. Postgraduate education may
count towards work experience.
Additional Considerations: The candidate should be well-organized,
should have the ability to collect and compile technical information and
data, and should have strong technical writing skills. Additionally, the
candidate should have good inter-personal skills, a strong work ethic,
and a professional demeanor. The candidate must also have good performance
records, regarding attendance, productivity, and work quality. The candidate
should have a valid driver’s license.

and strenuous outdoor work activities will likely be required. The selected
individual should have knowledge and experience in the fields of ecology,
water quality, wastewater treatment works, wastewater/stormwater regulations
soil science, geography, and geology.

Civil/Environmental Engineer
Environmental Services & Consulting (ES&C), an industry leader

restoration construction drawings (CD’s), perform stormwater calculations,
develop nutrient management strategies, assist with water quality monitoring
efforts, review shallow groundwater data, conduct stream channel geomorphic
surveying/mapping, prepare erosion and sediment control (E&SC) plans,
and assist with other natural resource/environmental projects. Fieldwork
and strenuous outdoor work activities will likely be required. The selected
individual should have knowledge and experience in the fields of hydrology,
fluvial geomorphology, land development, civil engineering, agricultural
engineering, E&SC, and surveying.
Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in
Environmental Engineering, Biological Engineering, Civil Engineering,
or similar field of study required. Master's degree preferred. Certification
(or the ability to become certified) as a Professional Engineer (P.E.)
in Virginia preferred. Training in natural channel design (Rosgen, N.C
Stream Restoration Institute, or equivalent), nutrient management, water/wastewater
treatment, or stormwater management preferred.

Laboratory Technicians
Environmental Services & Consulting is seeking qualified individuals
as part-time Laboratory Technicians. Laboratory Technicians perform varying
tasks depending on needs of the laboratory scientists. This is an excellent
opportunity for students to acquire additional laboratory training. Science
majors preferred but not required. ES&C offers flexible scheduling
and competitive salaries.
Custodial/Maintenance
Part Time custodial/maintenance position working in two offices 20+ hours
a week. Duties include general inside cleaning (restrooms, floors, windows,
waste receptacles, recycling), and general exterior maintenance (sweeping,
mowing lawn, some landscaping, some painting, caulking, and gutter cleaning)
may occasionally include working on a ladder up to 24 ft in height.
